Exploration of Maya cenotes in Mexico

ProMare cooperates with archaeologist Guillermo de Anda at the Autonomous University of the Yucatan, Merida (Mexico) to explore ritual cenotes, or sinkholes, that were used by the Mayan peoples as sacrificial/religious sites.  Several cenotes in proximity to the ancient site Chichen Itza have never been explored and are only now being opened for study.

After an initial reconnaissance trip to Mexico in 2004 ProMare has been supporting the ongoing investigation of numerous cenotes throughout the Yucatan/Merida region by providing the necessary technology and funds. Archaeology Magazine has covered the research in two feature articles.
